Mild scent, limited effectiveness

I was hoping for a stronger cedar smell from these TYGA moth balls, but after placing a few in storage under the bed and in the wardrobe for over two weeks, I noticed little to no scent when opening them. The idea is great and the product is natural, but the fragrance seems too mild to be truly effective as a repellent in my experience.

Great smelling moth repellent

This set of 40 small natural cedarwood balls is a simple, non-toxic way of keeping clothes moths at bay. It also adds a pleasant scent to the clothes drawers. The manufacturers have paid some attention to detail, by including a couple of scraps of sandpaper which makes it easy to refresh the balls. When it arrives, the box is sealed but once you break the seal, the woody scent is obvious.I'm putting these in clothes and bedding drawers as I caught three clothes moths in my home.I wonder whether the naming was a play on Tiger-moths.

So far, so good!

I've only just received these moth balls, so it's too early to assess whether they're actually working. I can get influxes of common clothes moth from time to time, and have tried sticky traps (it didn't catch one!) insect lights (that has been successful) but this is the first time I've tried these. From the vendor's photos (shown in hands), I thought these were about the size of a golf ball, but they are not! I've taken a photo - think more marble-sized! They smell faintly of sweet wood, I found it more pleasant that traditional moth balls, so they get a plus for that! They come with bags, so you can hang them in your wardrobe and hopefully ward off the little critters! They suggest sanding them down every so often, so the smell continues for longer. At this size, that's going to be a fiddly job! I have cedarwood essential oils - I think it might be easy just to coat them in that instead! So, they're interesting and I hope they work. They're attractive to look at, but you don't buy them for that. For now, all seems fine but time will tell whether they work. It's a tentative recommendation from me for now!

Nice product and well packaged !

It's difficult to get too excited about moth balls, but this is a nice product that's also well presented.Includes 40 cedar wood scented balls that have a pleasant and not over bearing smell.I like the box, and the package also includes two cloth draw string bags that are ideal for travel or storage. The package also includes two small squares of sand paper to rub the moth balls and refresh the scent.Overall great value for money and a good product. Personally think I'd prefer the balls to smell of fresh pine wood rather than cedar wood, but that's down to personal taste.Five stars from me!

Great pack of pleasant smelling, moth repellent cedar balls for clothes storage

This is a great pack of 40 small cedar wood balls, which are perfect for putting into drawers and storage bags/boxes as a clothes moth repellent. Gone are the days of those toxic, horrid smelling camphor moth balls!Opening the sealed box you can definitely smell the pleasant smell of cedar wood. Also included are two draw-string pouches for storage and a couple of small pieces of sandpaper so that you can rough up the balls should the smell start to fade, to release more of the cedar essential oil from the wooden balls. On the bottom of the box is a QR code that takes you to a website with comprehensive usage instructions.

Small but natural.

My moth balls are tiny, a bit bigger than marble sized but they seem natural and are easy to handle. They have a gentle cedar smell of natural cedar.I have two cloth bags for hanging some balls. The recommendations are to sand them after a couple of months, two small sanding sheets supplied.Good value - I will see how they go at keeping my clothes moths from nibbling my clothes.

Moth balls

Last year when I moved into my home, I purchased tonnes of moth solutions, as the home I was moving into hadn't been lived in for about 4 plus years. I also have been getting stuff out of storage, and I noticed a couple of items had a little bit of moth action. I noticed a slight moth infestation then, and so slowly but surely, I have been putting different bug devices around the home to make sure no moths are around.I have used these before, and when I have previously used them, they have lasted for a good amount of time. I like that they are not overpowering in smell. I like that there are 40 balls in total; I usually put 1 in a drawer in the centre. It always moves around when I am putting things in and taking things out. These cedar wood balls are a good size. They are 6.99 for 40. They are handy to have around the house.

Large number; subtle scent; could do with more bags

These cedar wood balls have a pleasant scent which are a non toxic solution for moths. You get 40 in total together with 2 small drawstring canvas bags - the bags just fit 20 balls each - it would have been nice to have a couple more bags. You also get a small piece of sandpaper to rub them to reactivate the scent as needed.I did notice a lot of them has both red and white wood content.Overall happy to recommend.

They Work

These cedar moth balls seem to be keeping moths out of my front room.

Genuine cedar wood balls

Now these are real cedar balls and not run of the mill “other wood” with cedar oil on it.These are the real deal as you can tell by the colour and the smell as soon as you open the packet. They are larger than any others I've found before. These came well packaged , none were rough anywhere and are just really nice genuine cedar wood balls.I can happily say buy these cedar wood balls if you want the genuine thing and you will not bed disappointed.

cedar wood balls moth deterent

These cedar wood balls are approximately 2.5cm diameter, not perfectly finished but not too bad. They do have a delicious scent of cedar to them though and they are the perfect size for scattering through drawers or stored clothes, bedding etc to keep those pesky moths at bay. I know they work as I've been using cedar as a moth deterrent for many years and I know these will also do a good job.

Wooden mothballs

In the box is 40 small wooden balls, with two small cloth bags and two small pieces of sandpaper. They don't smell unpleasant at all, which was great as I remember my parents using mothballs which had an awful odour. It doesn't actually tell you on the box how many to use, so I've put 5 in each bag to hang in my wardrobe and scattered two or three in each of my drawers. Time will tell how effective they are I suppose.

Pleasant scent and lots of them!

These balls, all 40 of them, have a pleasant scent which will bring a fresh, clean smell to drawers and wardrobes. There are so many that you can pop a few in each drawer and a couple of small, drawstring bags are provided if you want to hang some in a wardrobe.Sandpaper is also provided for you to revitalise the balls when necessary. They're small, neat, attractive and environmentally friendly, a great aid to protect your clothes and keep them fresh.I hope you found this review useful. If you have a question, I always try to respond when Amazon forwards them to me.

Not bad

They have a decent smell to them. The balls are smaller than I expected and I think the pictures shown are misleading as they clearly attempt to make the balls look much bigger than they are, and this is despite actually indicating a 2.2cm diameter, which is correct if you measure it, but is nothing like the relative size shown in the pictures.

They usually work...?

A small investment to keep those pesky moth lava from nibbling your best woollies.I've had discs, sticky traps, sprays and now balls to outsmart the little horrors as summer is a-coming in.So, I'll add these to the armoury and hope I get good results from them.I don't know what it is about cedar wood that has such a deterrent effect, but I'm very hopeful and I'll be back to have a whinge if they don't work!!

Good value

Not sure about these, on the one hand a lot of people recommend them and speak about them, usually with praise, but I have tried other methods which worked better for me. I like the fact these are made of wood, but there is not much of a smell. Will give them a try but not hopeful.

Rather poorly finished

I was hoping that these would be well finished, but sadly deveral of the balls had flat spots on them and a rough surface around these flat spots. It does not detract from their intended purpose but I was hoping to use them in a craft environment where they would be the balls on a solitaire board, for which they are not suitable due to the imperfections, hence my rating

Nice product but query over sustainability of wood source.

Nice box of cedar balls. Comes with two cotton bags to hang some up in a closet or wardrobe. My only concern is over the sustainability of the sourcing of the wood. The company make claims about being eco-friendly but only compared to napthalene moth balls.

Small balls...

What you see in their photos is what you get, except I think they used a small child's hand to hold the ball - they are half that size in reality - small, I was hoping for big balls not these tiddly little things. Anyway, time will tell if they work or not, I am paranoid about moths and my clothes being eaten, so I will distribute these around and hope for the best. Price at the time of this review was £7

just as described

Ypu get a flat box with well machined cedar balls. They do smell like they're fresh (as the thing that spooks moth is the cedar oil, so remember to top that up as the wood dries up over months), and are nice looking to boot. I've just put a few in bowls and spread them around my cupboard. Spot on especially at that price

I'm pleased that I ordered them

I recently discovered a little hole in a formal, woollen, winter coat that I keep in my wardrobe (and hardly ever wear) … so I was delighted to obtain this generously-sized packet of cedar balls. They smell a little similar to the old ‘moth balls' that used to be used when I was very young (I'm now in my 70s) – but I'm pleased that they are just natural. The little draw-string bag will be useful for keeping them in, and the little square of sandpaper should help to keep them actively smelling! I'm pleased that I ordered them.
